After Years of Suffering.

Milton G. ALEXANDER died at the home of E. D. HOOPES in this city Sunday, after several years of suffering. September 8th, 1892, he was thrown from a horse on the fair grounds in this city and received injuries to his spine which resulted in almost complete paralysis and rendered him as helpless as a babe. His case excited much interest among the medical fraternity, and severe operations from which relief was expected were twice performed, but no good results attended them. Mr. ALEXANDER was a patient and uncomplaining sufferer, and those who were about him during his many months of illness and pain scarce heard a murmur escape his lips. Mr. ALEXANDER was born Crawfordsville, Ind., August 19th, 1865, where he grew to manhood. He came to this county in 1889, and was married here to Miss Hattie E. GALLIHER April 9th, 1891. One child was born to them and died in infancy. The sympathy which has been with the young wife during the husband's affliction will still be with her in the sorrow of death. The remains were interred in Evergreen cemetery Monday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Mapes conducting the funeral service.

Death of M. G. ALEXANDER.

After an illness and suffering of two years and a half, Milton ALEXANDER died at the home of his father-in-law, Mr. E. D. HOOPES, in this city, last Sunday morning at half past one o'clock. It will be remembered by most of our readers that Mr. ALEXANDER received the injuries from which he died in an accident while riding horseback at the fair grounds. He was seriously injured in the spine, and all that medical aid and skill could do was unable to restore him. The first surgical operation for his relief was performed in this city by a physician from Keokuk, September 27, 1892. This, however, did not seem to be of any avail and another operation was performed by several doctors of this city, December 18, 1894. Until this time Mr. ALEXANDER had been partially paralyzed in portions of his body and was insensitive of pain. The operation was successful in restoring the sense of feeling, and some hope of his ultimate recovery was entertained by his friends. But as the days passed, he gradually grew weaker until death at last released him from suffering.

Milton Grant ALEXANDER was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, August 19, 1865. He came to Iowa and located in this city in 1880, acting as agent for sewing machines and organs. He was married to Hattie E. GALLIHER, the daughter of Mrs. HOOPES, April 9, 1891. He was a patient sufferer, and was ministered to most tenderly by a loving and devoted wife, who, aided by Mr. and Mrs. HOOPES, did all that could be done to render comfortable the sadly injured and crippled man. His death is indeed a release.

The funeral was held at the home of Mr. E. D. HOOPES Monday afternoon at three o'clock, and was largely attended. The service was conducted by Rev. G. W. Mapes. The mother of the deceased was sick, and therefore was unable to be present at the funeral. Deceased was thirty years old (sic - 29 years, 5 months, 21 days).
