James N. STRONG, son of Noble and Anna STRONG, born in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Mass., Feb. 28, 1818; married Claressa WELLS Jan. 10, 1847; one son, W. N. STRONG, being the result of this marriage. His wife died Dec. 16, 1850.

In August, 1862, he enlisted in Co. C, 49th Mass. Vol. Inf.; discharged Sept. 1, 1863.... medal from Congress for gallantry.... After being discharged from the army he moved to Galesburg, Ill., where he lived until 1866, when he moved to Fairfield, Iowa, making this his home until death removed him on Dec. 17, 1900, at 10:15 a.m..
