MRS. PETTY BURIED HERE THIS AFTERNOON.

The remains of Mrs. Martha PETTY who passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. W. D. JUNKIN in Charitan (sic - Chariton), arrived in this city this afternoon and were taken at once to Evergreen cemetery (sic - Old Fairfield Cemetery) where short funeral services were held. Mrs. PETTY was a former well known resident of this city, having lived here until a few years ago. A dispatch from Chariton has the following in regard to the death of Mrs. PETTY:

Mrs. Martha M. PETTY passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. W. D. JUNKIN in this city, Tuesday, of paralysis. She was stricken last Friday and never regained consciousness. Funeral services will be held at the JUNKIN home Thursday forenoon and the remains will be taken to Fairfield with interment by the side of her husband.

Martha M. WHITMORE was born in West Rupert, Va., on June 17, 1840. When quite a small girl she moved to Wallingford, Vt., where she grew to womanhood. With a girl friend she came west to Geneseo, Ill., to teach school, and while there met Leander PETTY to whom she was married June 1, 1866. To them a son and a daughter were born, Don C. of Denver, and Mrs. Vermont JUNKIN of this city, both of whom survive her. Three step-sons are also living, Edwin J. PETTY of Curtis, Neb., Clayton E. of Eldora, Horace G. of Fort Collins, Colo. Mr. PETTY passed away ten years ago and since that time she has made her home with her daughter. She has been a faithful and devoted member of the Presbyterian church for many years and her Christian life was in keeping with her profession.
