Death of Comrade E. G. DEARDUFF (sic).

E. G. DEARDUFF (sic) died at his home in Burlington Monday afternoon.

We clip the following from the Tuesday morning Hawkeye.

Eli G. DEARDUFF died at his home at number 425 South Seventh street yesterday afternoon at 2:25 o'clock. He was a veteran of the civil war, and had lived to the ripe age of seventyfour. He had been ill for a dozen years, suffering from asthma, and last Thursday suffered a stroke of paralysis, which hastened his death. He was born in Franklin county O., where he received his education. He married Martha GANTZ, the daughter of John GANTZ, of that county, at Columbus, O., in 1851, and in 1852 moved into Iowa, settling on a farm seven miles west of Fairfield. He enlisted in the Fourth Iowa cavalry, from Jefferson county, this state, and was honorably discharged after three years' service in the western army. He has suffered from asthma for the last fourteen years, and the last seven years of his life had been filled with constant suffering, which grew more intense during the last four years. Finally Thursday afternoon he suffered a stroke of paralysis, falling to the kitchen floor. After that he but seldom, if at all, regained consciousness.

At one time he had charge of the east division building department of the C. B. & Q. under Tom Potter's management of the road. Despite his illness he was ever cheerful and of a lovable disposition. Both he and his wife were members of the First Baptist church of this city. The Rev. Dr. Edwin McMinn will conduct the funeral services at the house tomorrow. This service will be in charge of the local G. A. R. post, of which the deceased was a member. The services at Fairfield, where the interment will be made, are to be conducted by the Odd Fellows, of which organization he was a member for many years. He leaves a son, J. F. DEARDUFF (sic), city clerk of Fairfield, and one daughter, Martha Frances BARLOW, whose home is at Colorado Springs. She was notified of her father's death and reached here Sunday night at 10 o'clock.
