"Fairfield Ledger", Feb. 12, 1890, Pg. 3

A SUDDEN DEATH. Ebenezer CREW, who has resided two and a half miles west of this city for more than a quarter of a century, died very suddenly about midnight of Saturday from an attack of peritonitis...

Mr. CREW was born in Monmouthshire, Wales, in 1832. He came to the States in 1855, and to this county the same year. During his earlier residence here he was one of the operators of what is known as the "West Bank" coal mines, and of late years has been engaged in mining and farming. He was married to Miss Belinda GOVER, who survives him, in 1860.

Seven children were born to them, six of whom are now living, and all in this county except the eldest daughter, Mrs. Ed. GROFF, whose home is at Sioux City. Plain and unassuming in his manner, Mr. CREW was a man of strictest honesty and integrity... The funeral occurred from the First Methodist Church in this city Monday afternoon, Rev. W. G. Thorn conducting the services.
