MR. and MRS. Wm. RICHARDSON
HAIGLER, Nebr. - Mr. and Mrs. William RICHARDSON, who have lived in Haigler and vicinity for the past thirty years, both passed away at their home there Saturday, Jan. 4. Death came to the aged couple just a few hours apart as seemed fitting after a life together extending over sixty-two years.
Sarah Jane KOONS was born in Fairchild (sic - Fairfield), Iowa, September 18, 1855. She passed this life at her home in Haigler, January 4, 1936 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 17 days.
William RICHARDSON was born in Maryland, Pa., October 12, 1849 and departed this life at his home in Haigler January 4, 1936, aged 86 years, 2 months and 24 days.
They were married at Fairfield, Iowa, March 18, 1874. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Mima IVEY of Hot Springs, Ark., who has been here for the past four years giving most devoted service to the care of her mother, whose illness extended over that period of time, and W. A. RICHARDSON, who resided on the home place north of Haigler. They also leave to mourn their passing three grand children, Vivian GANO, Raymond and Esther RICHARDSON of Denver.
Mrs. RICHARDSON leaves two brothers, Henry KOONS of Batavia Iowa, and John KOONS of Laramie, Wyo. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dillion (sic - Dillen) KOONS, were pioneer settlers at Fairfield, Iowa.
Mr. RICHARDSON's parents both came from Scotland and settled in Pennsylvania. He spent his youth at Fairfield. He and Mrs. RICHARDSON came to Nebraska in 1895 and took a homestead near Holdrege. Later they moved to McCook, where they lived several years. After which they moved to Haigler and took another homestead under the Kinkaid act.
Surviving him besides the children are five sisters, Mrs. W. P. NORRIS of Holdrege, Nebr., Mrs. Ellen CRAIL and Mrs. John SCOTT of Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. Anna ALSTON and Mrs. Ada WICKENS of Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday January 6th at 2 p.m. conducted by Pastor T. M. Ransom and interment was in the Haigler cemetery.
All Haigler business houses closed during the funeral in honor and respect for the deceased.
Mrs. Frances RICHARDSON of Denver came down to attend the funeral of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. RICHARDSON. She returned home Tuesday.
