The death of George R. BABCOCK occurred last Friday at the family home on West Briggs street, following a long illness from dropsy. The funeral took place place from the house Saturday afternoon and burial in Evergreen cemetery. Deceased leaves a wife and six children. He had been a resident of Jefferson county for many years and was well known and much respected. He was born in Wisconsin in 1851 and came to this county when near twenty years of age. He was wedded to Miss Mary CUNNINGHAM of Abingdon. Eight children were born as a result of the union, but two of these have died. Deceased, in spite of the long and wearing illness, withstood the trial with the admirable fortitude ever a characteristic of his life.

G. R. BABCOCK died Dec 4 1908 in Fairfield, age 57 years. Millwright. Bur. Fairfield. Born in Wisconsin. Married. Father – Joseph BABCOCK, born Wisconsin. Maiden name of mother – Amelia SPEAK.

George Reuben BABCOCK dies yesterday about noon at his home in West Briggs street after a lingering illness of the dropsy. During his long illness he was a patient sufferer and did little complaining, bearing his lot with great fortitude. The funeral was held this afternoon at the home at two o'clock. Rev. Caviness of the Adventist church had charge of the last services. The body was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. BABCOCK was born in Wisconsin September 1, 1851 and came to to (sic) Jefferson county when a young man, making his home for a number of years in Abingdon. He was married at that place to Miss Mary CUNNINGHAM. To them were born eight children, two of whom Ernest and Melva have preceeded their father to the other land. His wife and six children survive him. They are as follows:
Mrs. Ben NEWMAN, Misses Alice, Mamie and Reffa and Ed, all of this city and Bert of Pittsburg, Pa.

George Reuben BABCOCK died in this city Friday, after a protracted and painful illness. His body was interred in the Evergreen cemetery Saturday. Mr. BABCOCK was born in Wisconsin August 30th, 1851, and had been a resident of Jefferson county for many years. He was married to Mary CUNNINGHAM at Abingdon March 3d, 1873 (sic - 1874), and the widow and six children survive him--Herbert, Edith, Alice, Edward, Mamie and Reffa BABCOCK. There are many friends who will extend their sympathies to the sorrowing family.
