William T. MACHESNEY was born in West Moreland Co. (sic) Penn. Sept. 16, 1850, the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. John MACHESNEY. His early education was obtained in the Salem High School after which he read medicine in the office of a physician in Audwan, Ill. His medical course was completed in the Keokuk, Iowa, Medical College and his first home and practise (sic) was in Salina, Iowa. Here he identified himself with the Presbyterian church and served as a ruling elder. In 1878 he was married to Miss Rose FOOTE. To this union was born one son Ray who survived both father and mother. The home in Salina was exchanged for a home in Perlee and later in 1883 for a home in Bagley, Iowa, where the wife and mother was taken to her reward in 1885.
Dr. MACHESNEY continued the active practice of Medicine until the year 1893 since which time the drug-store has claimed most of his attention.
On Jan. 10, 1889 Dr. MACHESNEY was married a second time to Harriet L. MILLER and she with Ray, the only son, most keenly feel the loss of Husband and Father.
There being no Presbyterian church in Bagley, the Dr.'s religious life was identified with the M. E. church to which he transferred his membership in 1900 and of which church he was an active and consistent member at the time of his death.
Two brothers and two sisters remain; Samuel L. of Fairfield, Iowa, J. M. of Dekalk (DeKalb?), Ill., Mrs. Margaret MARSHALL of Greensburg, Pa., and Mrs. Sarah E. DORNON of New Alexandria, Pa.
The failing health of Dr. MACHESNEY has been noticeable for about one year and particularly so since February last. His decease though sudden and as always a severe shock to his loved ones was nevertheless not unlooked for, and He who makes no mistakes but doeth all things well is the Father of the Fatherless and Husband of the widow.
The sympathies of this community go out to the friends most naturally and really. We make their sorrows ours and are glad because it is not a better sorrow but a sorrow sweetened by the sweetest and surest of all hopes.
