"Fairfield Ledger", July 24, 1895, Pg. 3, Col. 3

DIED IN WASHINGTON CITY.

A telegram received in this city Monday announced the death of Clara J. HAMPSON at Washington, D.C. Miss HAMPSON was prostrated by fever about four weeks ago, and her condition for a week or more preceding death was very critical. The remains were brought to this city this morning by Miss Iowa HAMPSON, a sister, and will be interred tomorrow morning. Funeral services will be held at the family residence on East Briggs street.

Deceased was a daughter of the late Evan HAMPSON.
She was born and grew to womanhood in Fairfield, and was in the thirty-sixth year of her age. She left this city in 1889 to accept a departmental clerkship at Washington, and was in the interior department when her illness began. Miss HAMPSON was a bright, intelligent girl, modest in her demeanor and retiring in disposition, but she had many warm friends in the home of her girlhood who will mourn her death. A full measure of sympathy will go out to members of the breaved family upon whom a crushing blow has fallen.
