DEATH OF JAMES M. SLAGLE. It is our sad duty to record the death of another old citizen of this county. James Marshall SLAGLE passed from life here to life immortal Monday evening, August 15th, 1887, in the 71st year of his age. Only ten days ago Mr. SLAGLE sent for us and in pleasant conversation, in which he spoke calmly of his approaching end, he gave us the following particulars of his life, with the request that we publish it at the proper time. -- He was born in Washington, Pa., May 16, 1816, and came to Iowa in 1840, locating at Bentonsport and engaging in the mercantile business. He removed to Jefferson County in 1842, living for seven years on a farm 2½ miles south of Fairfield. He went to California in 1849 and returned in 1851. In the latter year he was maried to Miss Amanda B. CRAINE. Five children were born of this union, two of whom are living... The sons, Dr. B.W. of Kansas, and J.M. of Colorado, were with their father in his last hours.....
