Obit. John SHIVES, born Westminster, Md. May 19 1829, died at Eldon, Iowa Apr 15 1920 age 90-10-27. Came to Iowa spring of 1872 and located in Batavia where he was highly respected. Married Miss Mary SPEELMAN Feb 10 1874; nine children. An infant son preceded him in death. Family resided in Batavia until 1905, when they moved to Eldon to live near their children who were employed there. Leaves wife, four sons and four daughters, 28 grandchildren and 3 grgrchn. The children are Robert of LeMars, Iowa; Mrs A D SUTHERLAND and W. A. SINCLAIR, of Gillett, Wyo., Mrs L. E. RUPE of Mystic, Iowa; Mrs W R AVERY of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Fred, Jons and Pete of Eldon, Iowa.
