The remains of Ezra S. RAND, a resident of Mt. Pleasant for many years, and who died on the 10th inst., were interred in the Cemetery in this city Monday morning.

Mr. RAND came to Iowa in 1840 and lived near Winchester, Van Buren County, for some time. In 1848 he came to Fairfield and for a few years was landlord of the National Hotel, on the north side. His wife died and was buried in this city in 1850. An escort of six Knights Templar accompanied the body here, among whom was Father Schreiner.

BROUGHT BACK FOR BURIAL -- E. S. RAND, by the grave of his first wife. Age 77 y. 10 m.... Mr. RAND lived in Fairfield and kept the National Hotel back in the early fifties. After the death of his wife he moved to Wooster, where he kept a store and prospered... His brother Masons speak of him in terms of high regard, as do the old settlers here who knew him.

[Transcriber's note: The Burial Permit for E. S. RAND which I entered on the Jefferson and Henry County boards mistakenly assumes the permit was issued by Henry County. E. S. RAND died in Henry County, and a permit to bury him in Jefferson County would have been required by (and issued by) Jefferson County.]
