DEATH OF PETER GOW.

The death of Peter GOW occurred at his home in this city Tuesday, June 20th about 4:30 p.m. His disease was inflammation of the stomach. He was in the country Sunday and was taken sick Monday morning, continuing to grow worse until death relieved him of his pains. Mr. GOW was born in Scotland July 15th, 1806, and was married there in 1837. He came to the United States in 1840 with his wife and two children -- one of them dying on shipboard. He located in Ohio and lived there until 1847, when he removed to Iowa, settling in Jefferson County. Old age rendering him unfit for active farm work, he removed to Fairfield in 1888. Nine children were born to them -- eight girls and one boy. The children living are: Mrs. William MEEK, Dickinson County, Iowa; James GOW, Eureka Springs, Ark.; Mrs. Catherine BRADFIELD, Mrs. Newton BRYANT, Mrs. Isabel MYERS, Mrs. Henry RIDER and Mrs. J. B. RILEY. The five last named live in this county. Mrs. J. E. BOWERMASTER, another daughter, died last September. Mr. GOW was a Scotch Presbyterian, and a man of upright character and the strictest integrity. In all of his long life, the greater porsion (sic) of it spent in this county, he was esteemed by all who knew him. A good man with kindly influences has gone from us. The funeral will take place from his late residence this afternoon at 4 o'clock.
