Death of Mrs. SULLIVAN

The sad announcement of the death of Mrs. James SULLIVAN of this city was made this morning. She had been ill for less than two weeks with malarial fever, and though known to be in a critical condition, her friends hoped for her recovery until a short time before her death. Mrs. SULLIVAN was a most estimable worman, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. FINDLEY (sic. FINLEY), who formerly resided here. She leaves three small children. Mr. SULLIVAN and family will have the heartfelt sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their affliction.

* Transcribed for genealogy purposes (Note: entry updated May 27, 2012 with full text transcription and maiden name correction). I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note: Margaret's maiden name was given as "FINDLEY" in her obituary. However, her October 1877 Jefferson county, Iowa marriage record and the obituary of her husband James SULLIVAN use "FINLEY" for her maiden name.
According to her headstone inscription in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa (SDof25-005), she was "In her 28th year of age" when she died on Sept. 11, 1888. That indicates a DOB of about 1860. Another source, unidentified, is quoted as giving her age at death as "26-11-17". It isn't clear if that came from a death record entry or what the source was for that
age information.
