DEATH OF PHILIP HOFFMAN... Three weeks ago he went to Mankato, Kansas.... The remains were brought to Fairfield for burial...

Born in Lancaster, Pa., May 3, 1815. When 15 years old he began learning the trade of a carpenter, a trade which he followed all his life. He was a resident of Chicago in 1832, and afterwards worked in various parts of the country. March 16, 1836, he was married to Margaret LEWIS, and in 1845, together with his wife, he came to Fairfield. He has lived here ever since, following his business as a builder until about 1855, when he retired from active work.

Mr. HOFFMAN had eight children, Dr. William of Sigourney, T.L. and Isaac, of this city; Isaiah who died in the west in his 22d year; Mrs. J.A MONTGOMERY of Washington; Mrs. T. Y. MORRISON of Mankato; Alice, who died when 19 years old, and Margaret, who died in childhood.... Diabetes. He was a good citizen and a man of excellent character.
