May 18, 1916.Mrs. J.G.W. SMITH died Sunday at home of her son Charles three miles s. e. of Batavia, aged 70-4-4. Maiden name was BROWN, born and resided all her life in Jefferson County. Of a family of nine children; two sons, Charles and Ross, survive her. Dunkard Cemetery.

May 25, 1916, 1-4.Nancy Ann BROWN SMITH, born in Jefferson Co., Iowa, Jan. 10 1846, died May 14 1916. June 29 1869 married John G.W. SMITH who died June 4 1900. Nine children, 7 boys and two girls. Maryetta, Ira, Ora, Charles, Reuben, Ross, and a son and daughter who died in infancy. All the above have preceded their mother in death except Charles and Ross; also remaining are 7 grandchildren and two stepdaughters; Mrs. Wm. VANAUSDELN of near Batavia, and Mrs D. S. ALBAUGH of near Ankeny, Iowa, and one stepson, Amos G. SMITH of Shields, Kan. She also leaves two brothers, John W. BROWN of Los Angeles, Calif., and David BROWN of Omaha, Neb. Member Church of the Brethren. The county has lost another old settler.....Dunkard Cemetery.
