NEARLY FIFTY YEARS IN JEFFERSON COUNTY.

James WELDAY, long a resident of Fairfield and Jefferson County, died (paralysis following jaundice) at the home of his son, John J. WELDAY, near Libertyville Thurs..

Born near Steubenville, O., Jan. 5, 1818, where he grew to manhood; married to Maria MOORE July 1, 1840, with whom he lived in harmony for 62 years, the wife passing away in this city two years ago.

Two sons, John J. of this county and W.W. of Des Moines, are they only surviving members of the family. Mr. WELDAY came to Iowa in 1844, via the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, and landed at Burlington. He walked to Mt. Pleasant where the U.S. land office was located, and entered a quarter section of land near Lowell, Henry County, on which he lived until his removal to Jefferson County 44 years ago. He was a resident of Fairfield for 26 years... Presbyterian Church.
