Arthur Truman SMITH, 89, lifelong resident of Jefferson County, died Sat. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred MAKEPEACE in Bettendorf, where he had gone to spend Father's Day. Raymond Funeral Home. Burial in Fell Cemetery at Libertyville.

Born Aug. 19, 1880, near Libertyville, son of L.D. and Mary KOOL SMITH. Reared and educated in Jefferson County and lived on a farm until he retired and moved to Fairfield in 1956. Member Adventist Church.

Married Daisy Mae OLIVER in 1905; she died in 1920; he was married to Bertha LYNN in 1922 who survives. Also survived by six daughters: Mrs. Roland CARTER, Norwalk, Calif.; Mrs. Fred MAKEPEACE, Bettendorf; Mrs. Vern JEFFERS, Davenport; Mrs. Otha SMITH, Bettendorf; Mrs. Leonard GOODNIGHT, Topeka, Kan.; and Mrs. Leonard WEST, Libertyville; one sister, Mrs. Mae HEALD, Waverly; 7 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by one child, two brothers and a sister.
