James STUMP, Libertyville's last old soldier, passed away at his home south of town Dec. 25 and was buried at Fell Cemetery Fri., Dec. 27.

James William STUMP, born Sept. 25, 1845, near Libertyville, Jefferson County, Iowa, and died Dec. 25, 1929, on the farm on which he had spent almost his entire life. Civil War, Co. H, 3 Iowa Cav.

Son of George and Mary STUMP; five children in family and all have preceded him in death. Married Harriet E. MARTIN Dec. 16, 1868; 8 children, 6 still living -- Elmer of Ottumwa; Perry, Amaziah, Arch and Charlie, all living near the home of their father, and Mrs. Anna LANMAN of Bonaparte, Iowa; Ellen dying in infancy, and Mrs. Alice CREEK who died in 1912.

Besides wife and children he leaves one half-brother, Jasper BARTHELOW of Douds, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, one step-grandson, 15 greatgrandchildren. Methodist Protestant Church. Six grandchildren acted as pall bearers: Floyd, Harold, Roy, Russell STUMP, and Van and John CREEK.

(Note: No death record found for James W. STUMP. However, Death Records Book 5, Page 53, Nicholas STUMP, born June 13, 1829, in Ohio; died Feb. 17, 1925, aged 85-8-5, buried Winsell Cemetery. Parents: George & Mary (RASHER) STUMP. Informant, N. A. STUMP.)
