William SHEETS, an old resident of Des Moines township, this county, died at the home of his son, Isaac SHEETS, west of Libertyville, this morning. Deceased reached the 94th year of his age Feb. 2d last.

DEATH OF WM. SHEETS.

An early settler and one of the oldest men in the State Passes Away....

Born near Martinsburg, Berkeley County, Virginia, Feb. 2, 1798, and he was therefore past 94 years old. Until recently he had been in good health, and was to a remarkable degree possessed of all his faculties. He had the distinction of driving the first mail coach across the Alleghany Mountains for Kincaid, Beck & Evans in August, 1818. He came to Iowa in 1855, and has lived here ever since on land then purchased by him about three miles west of Libertyville. His two sons, Isaac and Joseph, survive him.... Remains will be interred in the Fell Cemetery.
