OBITUARY

GEORGE SAMONS

George SAMONS, born April 18, 1863 in Henry county, son of William and Emily WILLIAMS SAMONS, spent most of his life as a farmer in Henry and Jefferson counties. He was married to Nellie Nadine REED in 1886. To this union were born seven children, Malisse, Marchese, Noble SAMONS of Batavia, Georgia SAMONS, Marie LUNDQUIST and Francis SAMONS of Fairfield. Two children and his wife preceded him in death, Arthur, who died at the age of sixteen and Nellie COLLINS who died eighteen months ago.

Mr. SAMONS remarried in October, 1915 to Mrs. Janice McCoy. He leaves beside his wife and four children, two step daughters, Ruth STERN, Central City, S. Dakota -- and Mary PRODY, Casper, Wyoming. There are seven grand children and four step grand children -- two of the step grandchildren were raised by him. A sister, Mrs. Lou TURNER living in Mt. Pleasant also survives. Two sisters and three brothers having preceded him, in death.

In 1914 he made a confession of his Savior and was babtized (sic) at Cross Lanes Presbyterian church. Of late when his health would permit, he attended the services at the Foursquare church. He was very active and strong until the last five years, when he had faded more or less, but was fatally stricken July 1, about 7:30 a.m. and departed this life Sunday, July 3 at 2 o'clock. Many relatives and friends mourn his departure.

The last rites of George SAMONS were held from the Hoskins Funeral Home, Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Whiting and Rev Gable officiating.

Interment was made in the Fell cemetery, near Libertyville. The Masonic Lodge had charge of the services at the grave.

Those acting as pall bearers were six nephews of the deceased, Glenn LEATHERS, Karl and Dale SIMMONS, Charles E. CHESTER and Earl REED.
