Page 3, Column 5DEATH OF JAMES F. POTTS. On Thursday last, at his home in Libertyville, occurred the death of James F. POTTS; consumption. Age 48-5-18.
Born in Park Co., Ark., and removed thence to Cape Girardeau County, Mo., in 1842, with his parents. From 1843 to 1861 he lived in Schuyler County, Ill., and on the breaking out of the rebellion enlisted in Co. H, 28th Illinois Infantry, in which he served three years. His father having removed to this county, James came here at the close of the war. Sept. 19, 1866 (sic - Dec. 13, 1866 per Jefferson County Marriage records), he was married to Miss E. J. PANCOAST, who died Aug. 12, 1881, leaving four children.
Dec. 31, 1884, he was married to Miss Kate FRY who survives him. While in the army he was engaged in the siege of Ft. Henry, and the battles of Donelson and Shiloh, and was severely wounded at the last place. He was at home a short time after being wounded, but again joined his regiment at Memphis and took part in the fights at Hachie River, Grand Gulf, the siege of Vicksburg and at Jackson, Mississippi.

Note: Age at death should be 44 years old, not the 42 noted on his stone or the 48 above. Using his ages in censuses and his IL Civil War Registration his birthdate was determined to be between July 20th and August 26th, 1841.
