MRS. M'CLAIN, ILL ONE WEEK, DIES SUDDENLY

Funeral Services From Methodist Church At 2 p.m. Thursday

Mrs. Kate McCLAIN, a life time resident of Jefferson county passed away in her sleep shortly after 12 o'clock this morning at her home, 303 North Court street. In February of this year she suffered from heart trouble but had practically recovered. One week ago Saturday she was again taken sick and was confined to her bed, failing in health since that time.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the First Mehodist (sic - Methodist) church in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith. Burial in Evergreen cemetery beside her husband.

Mrs. McCLAIN was born on the MANATREY farm east of Fairfield June 11, 1855, the daughter of John P. and Mary J. MANATREY, both natives of France. February 13, 1877, she was married to Albert Turpin McCLAIN, one of the leading citizens of Buchanan township, where they lived on a farm following their marriage.

To this union was born three children, Grace, May and Frank. Mr. McCLAIN died May 4, 1890, at the age of 35 years. His death resulted from injuries received when kicked by a horse. After his death the family moved to Fairfield where the home has since been made. One daughter, Grace, wife of Dr. J. W. SCHADE of Lancaster, Wis., passed away, July 12, 1920. The other two children, Frank McCLAIN and Mrs. May NEIBERT, both of this city survive, also four grandchildren. Carl, Julia and George McCLAIN and Jack SCHADE.

Mrs. McCLAIN was long a faithful member and regular attendant of the Fairfield Methodist church. She was one of the active workers in the Missionary society and in the Ladies Aid so long as her health permitted. She was also a charter member of the Fairfield chapter of the Eastern Star and O. E. S. club. She was also a member of other clubs and organizations.

Note: Her middle name on her gravestone is spelled 'Catharine', but other sources have used 'Catherine'. She and husband Albert are buried in Lot Old.P.296.
