Page 3, Column 7OBIT. Stephen LEWIS, born in Belmont County, Ohio, Nov. 2, 1819, and died at his home in Libertyville Feb. 9th. In 1849 he was married to Miss Sadie ADY, and about two years subsequent to his marriage removed to Bureau County, Ill., where he lived about five years and then came to this county, where he lived until the time of his death...
He had eight children, all of whom, with the exception of one daughter, survive him. He entered the United States volunteer service Aug. 8, 1863, as sergeant of Co. B, Eighth Iowa Cavalry, and was mustered out with his regiment at Macon, Georgia, Aug. 13, 1865, as sergeant of the same company. The regiment was paid off and disbanded at Clinton, Iowa, Aug. 27, 1865. He was shot through the body Sept. 27, 1864, at Pulaski, Tenn.. He ever afterward felt the effects of this wound. His parents were members of the denomination known as Quakers, and he always inclined to that faith.....
At 11 a.m. the 11th inst. a large number of friends and old soldiers assembled at the M.E. Church at Libertyville and funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. Springer, assisted by Rev. E. E. Doud. The G.A.R. Post took charge of the burial.
