H. Frank HOFFMAN, 85, lifetime resident of Jefferson County, died 8 a.m. today at Moore Nursing Home in Stockport. Home was at 806 S. Second St.. Behner Funeral Home. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Born Sept. 12, 1877, at Libertyville, son of Henry & Margaret HOFFMAN; married Dollie SCHWARTZ Apr. 5, 1903. They operated a farm northwest of Birmingham for 45 years before moving to Fairfield in 1951. Member Birmingham Methodist Church.
Survived by wife & children: Blanche HOFFMAN, Perry; Bruce HOFFMAN, Fairfield; Mrs. Nellie MEACHAM, Richland; Van HOFFMAN, Birmingham; and Mrs. Wilda DOWNEY, Fairfield; 13 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. One daughter is deceased. HOFFMAN was the last member of a family of six children. He was a (great-?) grandson of George DONNER, captain of the ill-fated Donner party which left Springfield, Ill., for California in 1846. Early snow trapped the group in the mountains and many of them perished. Donner Pass, near Truckee, California, is named for the family.
