Bliss A. HALL, 80, retired hotel operator, passed away about 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Jefferson county hospital where he had been a patient for the past eight days. He had been in ill health the past year and in serious condition the past three weeks.
Last rites will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Dr. J. Henry Teele in charge. Interment will be in the Fairfield Abbey.
HALL came to Fairfield as owner and operator of the Bonn Hotel in 1934. He sold the business in 1938 and for a time lived at Libertyville where he was mayor for four years. He was a resident of Iowa Falls, Iowa, before coming to Fairfield and still had an interest in a hotel there at the time of his death. HALL had been a part time employee at the Behner funeral home for the past five years.
Bliss A. HALL was born Oct. 10, 1876, at Triumph, Ill., the son of the late B. J. and Mary Ann HALL. He was married to Marie SHRINER on Oct. 10, 1938 and the family home is located at 1006 S. Second.
He was a member of the First Methodist church, K. of P. lodge and Jefferson Lodge No. 4, I. O. O. F.
He is survived by his wife and the following children by a previous marriage: Wilbur HALL, Alhambra, Calif.; Mrs. Velma STRINGER, Farnhamville, Iowa. He is also survived by the following step-children: Mrs. Harry FOXX, Ottumwa; Agnes SHRINER, Chicago; Marquis SHRINER, Packanack, New Jersey; and Charles SHRINER, Reinbeck, Iowa. Eight grandchildren also survive.

*Transcribed for genealogy purposes; I have no relation to the person(s) mentioned.Notes: In the 1925 IA State Census for Jefferson County, his wife was Mabel OATES HALL. In the household were Wilbur and Velma, but on the second page where parents would be listed neither child had parents noted; relationships to Bliss were noted as Son and Daughter, however.
Bliss was initially buried in the Fairfield Abbey Mausoleum, which stood in what is now the 6th Addition to Evergreen Cemetery, which developed structural problems and was torn down in the 1960s. His was one of several burials that were removed to Evergreen Cemetery, and he is buried in Lot 2nd.267½. His second wife is buried elsewhere in Evergreen Cemetery with her first husband.
