Benhart (sic - Barnett) GIFFORD was born in Germany Jan. 4, 1836, and died at his home in Libertyville, Iowa, Nov. 15, 1921, aged 85-10-11.

In 1854 at the age of 18 he came to America and on Sept. 20, 1860, was united in marriage to Elizabeth HAFLEY, now deceased, of Rock Island.

Eight children, four having preceded him in death. Surviving are: Benard of Rock Island, Illinois; George of St. Joseph, Mo.; Will of Bloomfield, Iowa; and Mrs. Mary DUNLAVEY of Oklahoma City, Okla. During the latter part of the Civil War, Mr. GIFFORD served 11 months in Co. G, 47th Reg. Ill. Inf.. He received an honorable discharge at Rock Island May 1, 1866, and two years later came to Libertyville, Iowa, where he has since resided... Interment in Fell Cemetery.
