The FAIRFIELD LEDGER, March 5, 1879, Page 3, col. 8.

A letter received here this week announces the death of Steilacoom, Wahington Territory, the 7th ult., of Wm. H. Wallace, who will be remembered by many of our old citizens. He was receiver of public monies at Fairfield from 1849 to 1853, and during his residence here won many friends. After his removal west he was a delegate to congress, and held other positions of trust and honor. Mrs. Wallace still survives him, living at Steilacoom.

The PENDLETON OREGONIAN of February 15 says of W. H. Wallace...he was born in Miami County, Ohio July 17, 1811, removed in his youth to Indiana, and thence in 1837 to Iowa, where he served in both branches of the Territorial Legislature. He was appointed by Pres. Taylor Receiver of Public Moneys at Fairfield, Iowa.... In 1853 he removed to Washington Territory...In 1861 he was appointed governor of the territory by President Lincoln...
