Mary E. CARTER, 82, former resident of Jefferson County, died Mon. in St. Petersburg, Fla., where she had spent the winter. Raymond Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery at Libertyville.

Born Oct. 19, 1885, in Jefferson County, daughter of Thomas W. and Ella FELL CARTER. Reared and educated in Jeffrson County and taught school for several years. Miss CARTER spent the winters in Florida with her sister following her retirement. Member Presbyterian Church.

Survived by one sister, Freda Pauline SHANLEY, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Ora C. CARTER, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four nieces and several cousins in this community.
