DEATH OF DANIEL CARTER, an old resident of Jefferson County, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John FAMULENER, in Liberty Township, Monday morning....

Born in Cumberland County, Ken., Sept. 5, 1805, where he grew to manhood. He removed to McLean Co., Ill., when a young man, and was married there in 1833 to Mrs. Sarah RHODES of Bloomington. Two children were born to them, Mrs. John FAMULENER and John G. CARTER, who resides at Ottumwa.

He came to Iowa in 1838, locating on a piece of land south of Libertyville, where Mrs. CARTER died three years later.

He was married to Mary WILSON, daughter of Alexander WILSON of Des Moines Township, a few years later, by whom he had five children, Elizabeth, wife of George POLLOCK; Parlee, wife of Silas PEARSON; Alexander, Daniel W., and Thomas W. CARTER, all now living in this county. Mrs. CARTER died in 1875 and he has since made his home with his children.

Mr. CARTER was one of the few remaining pioneer settlers of Jefferson County. When he came here the Indians still made their headquarters at Agency. He exprienced all the hard times of those early days. In every relation of life deceased was a most excellent man, and he always bore the highest respect of his friends and neighbors....
