J.T. CLINE FUNERAL
Funeral services for J.T. Cline were held Sunday at 1:30 at the First Baptist church with Rev. I.C. Peterson officiating in a service which had been planned by Mr. Cline himself shortly before his death to include his favorite scriptures and hymns.
The service opened with a quartet selection, "It is Well with My Soul," followed by a bass solo by Gus Scott, "I'm So Glad That Jesus Loved Me." Rev. Peterson then spoke the funeral address based on the chosen scripture Psalm 35, verse 25.
John Thomas Cline, son of John and Martha Cline was born near Glasgow, Iowa, February 7, 1862, and passed away at his home on 906 Broadway, November 16, at the age of 72 years. His childhood was spent in the vicinity of his birth.
On December 25, 1882, he was united in marriage with Miss Hannah Hanson, to which union were born ten children. Four of these children preceded their father in death, two dying in infancy, Elsie Carrine at the age of twelve, and Prudence, Mrs. Walden Smith, the youngest daughter in December, 1931.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Cline moved to the old Cline homestead at Round Prairie where all the children were born.
When a youth of only sixteen Mr. Cline was baptized into the fellowship of the Round Prairie church where he later became a deacon giving long service in that capacity. On December 31, 1932, he affiliated with the First Baptist church of Mt. Pleasant.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hannah Cline; three daughters, Mrs. Estella Billingsley, Glasgow, Mont., Mrs. Minnie Cooper, Salem, Iowa, and Mrs. Gladys Cornick, Mt. Pleasant. Three sons, Manning Cline, of New London, Arlo Cline of Burlington and Harold Cline of Salem, a sister, Mrs. Curtis Leel of Salem, two half-sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Crenshaw of Stockport, and Mrs. Dollie Martin of Fairfield, two half-brothers, William Hall of Monmouth, Ill., and Benjamin Hall of Fairfield.
Burial was at Glasgow where many friends of the community where he was a prominent farmer and church man for forty-three years joined in the final rites.
The pall bearers were: Clarence Bowers, Walter Bowers, Lon Emerson, Wright Church, Tom Howell, William Wilson, Jode Frame and Fred McElwee.
