OLD SOLDIER PASSES AWAY. G. F. BALDING, an old time resident of Jefferson County, and a Civil War veteran, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. C. G. DAY, in Winfield, Friday morning the 24th, after a brief illness.
Mr. BALDING was born in Ross County, Ohio, July 24, 1841, and came to Iowa with his parents in 1850, locating near Libertyville in Jefferson County. He enlisted in Co. F, 2nd Iowa Cavalry, serving for four years. At the close of the war he went west, where he remained until 1908, when at the death of his wife he returned to Iowa where he made his home with his sister until his death.
He is survived by one brother, W. H. BALDING of Dayton, Washington; and four sisters, Mrs. C. G. DAY of Winfield; Mrs. J.N. SLIMMER and Mrs. A. J. RINIKER of Libertyville; Lydia BROOKS of Calif. Funeral services were held at Winfield Dec. 25th and interment was made at Libertyville.
