Last Rites Held For Ross WALKER, Printer 56 Years
Last rites for Ross G. WALKER, owner and manager of the Tribune Printing Co., were held today at the First Christian church. Services were conducted by the Rev. S. P. Williamson with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
WALKER, 903 E. Burlington Street, died Friday at 1:50 p.m., at the Jefferson County Hospital after a long illness. He was 72.
WALKER's career as a printer spanned more than half a century. He entered the profession in Brighton at the age of 16 and later worked on the "Ottumwa Courier" and the "Council Bluffs Non-Pareil".
He purchased the "Fairfield Tribune" in 1911 and was associated with that business continuously until his death. The "Fairfield Tribune" was incorporated as the Tribune Printing Co. July 1, 1920. The firm ceased publication in 1923 and since that time has engaged exclusively in the job printing business.
WALKER was born at Brighton July 31, 1882, the son of Samuel and Susan GRAY WALKER. He was married to Mable F. GILLIS in 1902 and she preceded him in death March 20, 1922. On Sept. 19, 1925, he was married to Fern SMITH, who survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Raymond E. WALKER and Ross G. WALKER, Jr., both of Fairfield, and the following sisters and brother: Mrs. Anna McQUAID, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Mayme BAKER, Pontiac, Mich.; Mrs. Rulie DUNSHEE, Denver. Colo., and Guy WALKER.
WALKER was a member of the First Christian church. He was also affiliated with the Knights of Pythias, Fairfield Elks Lodge, the Fairfield Golf and Country Club and Walton Club.
Services were in charge of the Weston Behner Funeral Home.
