GOLDEN WEDDING. Batavia -- Mr. and Mrs. Elza T. HARNESS, formerly of Batavia will commemorate their golden wedding anniversary Sunday July 18 at their home, 3310 E. Anderson St., Stockton, Calif.
Elza HARNESS of Birmingham and Alice CONNER of Batavia married in Ottumwa July 19, 1921, and with two exceptions lived in and around Batavia until 1953 when they moved to California. Two exceptions were nine years in Colorado and nine months in Washington, D.C.
Four children: Mrs. Robert VAUGHN, Granada Hills, Calif.; Mrs. Doyle STAGERS, Sacramento, Calif.; Eugene E. HARNESS of Mokelumne Hill, Calif., and William C. HARNESS, who was killed in World War II. They have 7 grandchildren and 5 grgrchn.
Theirs is the third generation to celebrate a golden wedding. Mrs. HARNESS' grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles CONNER celebrated theirs in 1924; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude CONNER, Batavia, celebrated in 1951. Her mother, who will be 90 in August and makes her home with the honorees, will be present for the five-generation occasion. Four of her grgrgrchn will also be present.
Elza is a retired carpenter. Alice, a vocational counselor is retired from the Calif. State Dept. of Employment, and for 14 years concentrated on assisting persons released from penal institutions.... Mrs. HARNESS is a Gold Star mother member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Allen Jewett Post 47, and each year her poem, "Gold Star Mother's Prayer" is read at the Gold Star Mother's luncheon. She is well remembered for her poetry here.

Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham; Lorance was son of Seaton Lee HARNESS and his wife Malinda SMITH buried in the old Cumberland Cemetery in Liberty Twp., Jefferson County. Elizabeth LAWSON HARNESS was dau. of Hudson & Lydia (HICKS) LAWSON, who are also bur. in the old Cumberland Cemetery.)
