John "Pat" FLANAGAN was born Jan. 17, 1892, and spent the first eight years of his life in a Catholic orphanage in New York City. When he was eight years old he was sent out on an "orphan train" to Kansas City, Mo.... When Lot and Nellie McNIEL came back to Iowa, Pat came with them and went to live with Mary Ann McNIEL, whom he adored. He was 14 years old at this time. Pat was a part of the McNIEL "family" and is remembered with affection by all who knew him.... Died June 9, 1945, as a result of an accident - struck by a train east of Agency, Iowa. Veteran of WWI... full honors accorded him by the American Legion at his funeral.
