KILLED BY THE CARS. About midnight last night word was received by the coroner that Rev. John Hayden had been killed by a train on the C. B. & Q., just west of Cedar Creek, near Whitfield. No further particulars have yet been obtained. He was staying with his son James and was much given to fishing. It is supposed he was coming from the creek to cross the bridge when struck. He was 76 years old and a pioneer in this county. In 1868 he was elected to the house of Iowa representatives and served one term. He had been a minister to the M. E. church for fifty years, had raised a family of ten children in this county, and was a much respected citizen.

DEATH OF REV. JOHN HAYDEN. Word was circulated here this morning that Rev. John Hayden was killed by the cars on the “Q” road last evening and that Coroner Evans had been sent for about midnight. The particulars are meager, but we learn that it was the habit of the old gentleman, who is about 80 years of age, to fish in Cedar Creek. He has been living with his son James near Krum. A westbound freight train ran over him about 6:20 last evening between Krum and Cedar Creek, crushing his head but not disfiguring the body.
