“History of the Church of the Brethren in Southern Iowa,” p. 95.

“Eld. Samuel A. Garber, born Cambria Co., Pa. Jan 1 1832, son of John and Sarah..... in the spring of 1853 married Nancy A. Peebler, whose ancestors were members of the Brethren Church in Switzerland shortly after the church was organized. They soon fled to Holland and later to America, to escape military duty.”
