Andrew Gantz was born in Ohio, son of John (1807-1893) and Mahala (Shafer) Gantz. Mary Ellen was dau. of Christopher and Elizabeth Canaday. Mary Ellen died 6 Aug 1916 at her home 704 W. Burlington St., Fairfield. Andrew Gantz married, 2nd, 9 Oct. 1917, Sarah Francis (Peters) Scott Campbell, dau. of John W. & Ann Elizabeth (Holden) Peters.

Sarah F. Peters’ first husband, Henry Harrison Scott “went to the gold fields” a few days after they were married, and never returned, having been murdered, report said. Andrew Gantz died in Fairfield 13 Apr 1918; interred with first wife in Fairfield Mausoleum. They had 10 children: Cora May died in infancy; Florence Ashmead and Lola M. died about 18 years ago, and Edward about 10 years ago. Surviving children: Harry C. Gantz, Brookville (d. 13 Jan 1956, bur. Batavia Cem.); Major Charles Gantz, Los Angles, Calif.; John Gantz, Dayton, Wash.; Wm. Gantz of Clarke, NeB.; Mrs. Ida Snyder, Clarke, Nebr., and Mrs. Mertie Millane, of Fairfield.
