“FAIRFIELD IN THE FIFTIES.”
.....Hon. W. B. Littleton was a tinner by trade and had his shop on the northeast side of the square, in the building alongside Thorne’s Dry Goods Store. Our recollection is he did not reside long in Fairfield, but early moved to Ottumwa where he served as mayor one term — 1870-71. He early became disabled by the ravages of disease and occupied an invalid’s chair at Ottumwa for several years. He was taken to Denver by some of his relatives with hopes of getting relief from his infirmities, but passed away there. He was a man of much intelligence and research, kind hearted and generous. We lost track of his movements when he left Fairfield, which we think was in the late ‘60s.

This data has been transcribed for genealogical purposes; I am not related to the subject.
