REUNIONS

BURGER family

The descendants of George and Margaret (SINN) BURGER gathered for the 100th BURGER reunion July 15 at the Hope Lutheran Church at Germanville.

George and Margaret "Maggie" BURGER were married in 1884 in Walnut Township, Jefferson County, Iowa, and farmed in the Germanville area. They raised five children: Katherine "Katie" DIERS, Anna CRILE, John BURGER, Jacob BURGER and Ila ESHELMAN. All of those children had descendants at the reunion.

The reunion date of the third Sunday in July is to commemorate Maggie BURGER's July 17 birthday, the occasion celebrated at the first reunion.

The morning began with relatives attending the church service at Hope Lutheran Church. Fifty-seven relatives were welcomed at noon and after singing the Doxology, a potluck dinner was enjoyed. Many family members shared photos, genealogy and memorabilia and tables were set up to display them. Tours of the Free Union Cemetery and Hope Lutheran Cemetery were given with graves marked indicating relatives buried there.

Those attending from Iowa were: John and Betty BURR, Lone Tree; John, Jodi, and Whitney VANTIGER, Mount Union; Pat and Lauren WINBORN, Kalona; Rick and Loni WATSON, Richland; Jennifer, Chloe, Brekken and Adyn FOREMAN, Ottumwa; Patty GATES, Birmingham; Joe, Nicole, Tristen and Savannah GARRETSON, Lockridge; Mike and Oralee OVERTURF and Athena, Des Moines; Paul KESSEL, Brighton; Kathleen KLOPFENSTEIN, Janette ROSS and Pam FRIEDEN, Mt. Pleasant; Alan and Carol DIERS, LeClaire.

Attending from Fairfield were: Linda BURGER, Anna Mae BURGER, Wayne and Loretta DIERS, Brenda DIERS, Colleen BATES, Jerry and Annabelle SIRDOREUS, Charlie and Kathy KESSEL, Jonquil KESSEL, Don and Joan SIRDOREUS, David and Charlotte KESSEL, Michael KESSEL, Robert, Sarah and Daniel KESSEL, Sabin and Peyton SIRDOREUS, Gene and Louise LUEDTKE.

Those coming from out of state were: Greg and Connie HENRY, Rogers, Arkansas; Bill and Florence WRIGHT, Sun Lakes, Arizona; Kevin DIERS, Dixon, Illinois; and Jim and Peggy BERGER, Smithville, Missouri.

The planning committee for this year's reunion was Gene LUEDTKE, Colleen BATES, Wayne DIERS, Janette ROSS and Kathleen KLOPFENSTEIN.
