THE HOMES OF FAIRFIELD

"An Account of Their Builders as Well at Their Owners and Occupants, Past and Present."

By OSCAR H. HERRING

COPPOCK Estate
307 South Main. Built by Benjamin D. PIERCE originally and once rebuilt, and his home until death. Home of his daughter later and now granddaughter and a brother. Mr. PIERCE was a celebrated character. An original abolitionist and at one time a minister, he possessed most liberal views and was one of the best read men in the city.

Admin. note: The PIERCEs were childless, and the 'daughter' referred to is Mary Catherine RUBEY COPPOCK who lived nextdoor at 305 South Main. See the Obituaries Board for Benjamin PIERCE and Rachel COPPOCK PIERCE for more detail on this relationship. Also see an entry on the Biographies Board regarding the PIERCE's 60th wedding anniversary.
