Built in 1914, the Cedar Township District No. 6 section 12 schoolhouse, better known as the Peach Blossom schoolhouse in Round Prairie Park, will soon have a new resting place.

Gary LEE, an obstetrician with the Van Buren County Hospital and Clinics in Keosauqua, will soon move the building to Bentonsport.

LEE said he hired an Amish building mover around two months ago to move the schoolhouse, but due to weather conditions that have kept the foundation soggy, the building might be moved in fall.

"With the rain, he's been behind," LEE said. "I'm just waiting on his OK and trying to get the foundation ready where I'm going to sit it."

Over the years, LEE has purchased and refurbished several old buildings, such as the post office built in 1853.

"I enjoy the older buildings," he said. "I have a schoolhouse now that was built in 1851. It's in Bentonsport now where the other property will be moved to."

LEE also moved the old Harrisburg Township Hall, which was also used as schoolhouse in the mid-19th century.

"We moved it from the Stockport, Bonaparte area. People used to go there and vote," he said. "It's in Bentonsport, but on a different property."

LEE said the Peach Blossom schoolhouse would likely be refurbished.

"We might open it up eventually for people to see what it used to be like."
