Nicholas STUMP, born June 13, 1829 in Ohio; died Feb. 17, 1925, age 85-8-5, buried Winsell Cemetery. Parents: George & Mary (RASHER) STUMP. Informant, N. A. STUMP.

Note: Given his age and date of death, the birthdate is off by 10 years; he should be born in 1839, or he was 95 years old when he died.

Use caution when researching this family, as there were two with the parents named George and Mary. In the 1850 census for Van Buren County, IA, Nicholas is listed as 11 years old with older siblings Catharine, Jeremiah, and Eli, and younger siblings Lydia, Adam, George, and David. His mother's maiden name was RASHER. This George (died 1861) and Mary (died 1883) are buried at Iowaville Cemetery in Selma, Van Buren Co., IA.

In the 1850 census for Jefferson County, IA, George STUMP's widow (he died 1846) Mary TERHUNE has remarried to Isaac BARTHELOW. In this household are children Elizabeth, David, and James STUMP, and Jasper W. BARTHELOW. This George is buried at Fell Cemetery near Libertyville, Jefferson Co., IA, and Mary (died 1909) is buried in Mt. Moriah in Douds, Van Buren Co., IA, with Isaac. (Thanks, Danny!)
