The Fairfield High School graduating class of 1961 had its 50th year reunion Sept. 9-10.
The reunion started the evening of Sept. 9, with Dewayne Hootman and crew serving "FOB's" with traditional Gaumer's potato salad, Sterzing potato chips and "chocolate foods." The group then attended the FHS football game with old rival Mount Pleasant; Fairfield won.
Morning coffee was served Sept. 10 at Walton Club. In the evening, class photos were taken during a social hour, followed by a "Golden Years" theme dinner at Walton Club. Donna SMITH DONALD and Sharon BONNETT POTTER-JOHNSTON greeted the 125 classmates and guests. Don and Yolande (METZ) FARRIS designed and made graduation photo nametags.
A prize was presented to Barbara HUNT WISEMAN, who attended her first reunion. Tina TURNEY THOMANN awarded the prizes.
Vice president Jim CORNICK was master of ceremonies. Linda BILLINGSLEY HENDRICKS gave the invocation. Jim CORNICK nad Karen NELSON HOLT recognized the 21 deceased classmates.
Cheerleaders Rose COOP HENDRICKS, Judy JOHNSTON PRINGLE and Judy CORNELIUS HOLMER led the FHS school song.
Mary Alice ZILLMAN CARTER gave a rendition of Patsy Cline, and Susan BEAN CUMMINGS, Janet MASDEN FRETHEIM and Bob LEEDY presented a past and present photo slide show throughout the evening with 1950s and 1960s music.
Many commented it was the best reunion yet.
Donations will be made to the Fairfield High School Wall of Honor and the Vic Rail Scholarship fund in memory of the deceased.
The majority voted to hold a 55th year reunion in the fall of 2016. A planning committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Walton Club.
