Joshua BELL voted in Round Prairie Twp., Election of 1848. In 1856 census, Tippecanoe Twp., Henry County, Iowa, Joshua BELL, age 80, b. Md., shown with Joseph G. Baldwin family.

12 June 1855.

Joshua BELL, aged 80 years, resident of Henry Co., Iowa, declares he was a private in the company commanded by Captain Joseph Lucas, in the regiment of Infantry commanded by General Whiteman (Ohio Militia).... Eli Jones and James Cochran, residents of Jefferson County, Iowa, witnesses.

Copy of discharge: "This is to certify that Joshua BELL has served a part of a tour of duty at Manarey's Blockhouse under my Command ordred out By the authority of Ginral Whiteman Commensing on the 22 of January 1812 (1813?) and Endin on the 22 of february Last(.)

Given under my hand this the 13th of April 1813. Joseph Lucas Capt.

Suspended Bounty Land Claim Re-Examined.

Treasury Dept. Dec. 15, 1856.

Joshua BELL is not on the rolls of Capt. Joseph Lucas, Ohio Mil. The signature of Capt. Lucas, in claimant's Discharge, corresponds with the signature on file in this Office.

Land Warrant No. 54,188 to Joshua BELL for 160 acres under Act 3d of March 1855 is rec'd. by us. Joshua BELL is deceased prior to the date of the Warrant, leaving neither widow or minor children. What is the rule of the department in the premises.

In Matter of Estate of Joshua BELL, deceased. ... It was satisfactorily proven that Joshua BELL, to whom as issued Land Warrant Certificate No. 54,188, departed this life intestate in Henry County, Iowa, about the __ day of July 1856, leaving no widow surviving him, and leaving as his sole surviving children and heirs at law: Elisha B. BELL; Elizabeth N. JOHNSON; Rebecca M. LOVING; Joshua D. BELL; Mary E. BALDWIN; George C. BELL, his children and all his children, except Sarah C. LAYTON, a daughter, who departed this life before the said Joshua D. BELL, leaving a husband, Wm. S. LAYTON, and three sons, namely: John C. LAYTON, Wm. D. LAYTON, and George A. LAYTON, which last departed this life intestate, unmarried, leaving no child and leaving as his sole heir his said father W. S. LAYTON, who is dead, leaving no widow. That Mary E. BALDWIN is still living, her husband having been many years dead, and these facts are made record and the Judge and Clerk certified same and such certificate attached to Land Warrant Certificate No. 54,188 for 160 Acres under Act of Congress approved March 3rd, 1855, issued to Joshua D. BELL.
