50th Anniversary

J. H. GARRETT and wife on the 23d of this month near What Cheer, Iowa. Married near Salina in 1852.... They left here the next day after their marriage in a 2-horse wagon for their future home in Keokuk County.... They are on a farm five miles from What Cheer and 3½ from Delta....

Note: According to Jefferson County Marriages, James M. (not James H.) GARRET married Susan CROCKER on November 24, 1852; this is probably a typo, as Highland Cemetery in Keokuk County notes James H. and Susan GARRETT buried there, she dying in 1914 and he in 1921.
