Note: The following item was a clipping in a scrapbook. It is dated 1954 and is believed to be from a Fairfield, IA, newspaper.

Adopted Daughter Arrives In Time For Christmas

It will be an especially Merry Christmas at the Richard LYNN home this year.

Mr. and Mrs. LYNN are now the proud parents of an adopted daughter who arrived at their home Monday afternoon and is now becoming adjusted to her new surroundings.

Although Mr. and Mrs. LYNN filed application for an adopted child more than a year ago, her arrival this week came as a complete and joyful surprise to the young couple. The (sic) had resigned themselves to the fact that no children would be placed in homes during the holidays.

But the youngster is here, and no doubt with her will come the best and Merriest Christmas in the lives of the new family. The baby will be seven months old on Christmas day and they have named her Gretchen Grace.

There are some proud grandparents in the city today too as result of the arrival of Little Gretchen. They are the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. ANDERSON, 303 North C street and the father's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd LYNN, 407 E. Kirkwood, where Mr. and Mrs. Richard LYNN also make their home.

The arrival of the adopted child is quite timely for another reason. It will no doubt help to fill the sad vacancy in the family caused by the death of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. STALLMAN, both this year. They were the grandparents of the new father.

The child's mother said this morning doctors had advised them to keep the child quiet for several days until she becomes accustomed to her new home and surroundings. After the holidays Mrs. LYNN said she and her husband would be happy to have friends and neighbors call to get acquainted with the new member of their family.
