Out of the Past in Pictures

In honor of National FFA Week, Richard PAUL of rural Mount Pleasant brought in mementos of his membership in the Fairfield FFA Chapter. The top photo is of the chapter members from a 1955 calendar. PAUL, fifth from the left in the front row, was the secretary. The advisor, Jim HORNER, is on the right in the front row. PAUL recalled the FFA members went out and sold ads for the calendar, but he said First National Bank and Iowa State Bank are the only two names recognized today. He pointed out that instead of a Presidents' Day, the February calendar had a Washington's Birthday and a Lincoln's Birthday. In the photo to the left (sic - see link below), PAUL holds a framed prize for the first-place dairy heifer he showed as an FFA member at the 1954 Centennial Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. He also holds his blue corduroy FFA jacket, which, other than being a bit too short, still fits. PAUL lived in Walnut Township in Jefferson County, went to Fairfield High School, and still owns the family's century farm.
