WILSONs celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

David and Margaret WILSON of Fairfield celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on New Year's Day with a family dinner hosted by their daughter.

David Leslie WILSON and Margaret Ann TOPPING were married at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 1, 1961, at the Birmingham Presbyterian Church in Birmingham. The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Wayne Hoehns.

The couple initially made their home in Ottumwa where the bride attended Ottumwa Beauty School. The couple lived in Birmingham, Chicago, Ill., and Escondido, Calif., before making their permanent home in Fairfield.

Mr. WILSON owned and operated a ServiceMaster franchise until his retirement in 2007. Mrs. WILSON worked for the Fairfield Community School District for 25 years until her retirement in 2007.

Mr. WILSON is the son of the late John D. and Frances M. TURPIN WILSON. Mrs. WILSON is the daughter of the late John W. and Ava R.E. DINGUS TOPPING.

The couple's children are Staci WILSON WRIGHT and husband Roger, and John WILSON and wife Deanna, all of Fairfield. The couple has five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Their children will host an open house for the couple from 2-5 p.m. June 11 at First Baptist Church. All six of the bride's siblings will be in attendance, traveling from three states for the event. All family and friends are invited to attend.
