S. KIME MADE NAVAL ENSIGN
Former local youth to pilot plane from Atlantic seacoast
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. KIME of nine miles northwest of town have been notified by the commanding officer of the U. S. Naval Air Station at Miami, Fla. that their son Samuel has been graduated from the training school at Pensacola, and received his commission as Ensign in the U. S. Naval Reserve.
Young KIME was granted his commission December 9. His orders have not of course been revealed but it is thought that he will pilot a plane off the Atlantic seacoast.
KIME was graduated from the Richland high school with the class of '38 and attended two and a half years at William Penn college in Oskaloosa, leaving to enlist in the air division of the navy in Ottumwa December 17, 1940. Following his preliminary training at the Naval Reserve Air Base at Fairfax airport, Kansas City, Kansas, he was sent to Pensacola, Fla, May 1 of this year where he graduated seven months later.
Mr. and Mrs KIME had the pleasure of having their son with them for Christmas. He arrived December 12 and left Christmas Day. He stated he likes the navy fine and has enjoyed the training. Ensign KIME has a brother Leo at home who is assisting with the fam work and a sister Ruth who is enrolled as a junior in the Richland high school.

SAMUEL KIME REPORTED SAFE AFTER MISHAP
Parents had received message stating he was missing in action
Fairfield people heard on a radio broadcast this morning that Ensign Samuel KIME is safe and well, after being reported missing in action.
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. KIME, nine miles northwest of Fairfield had received a message stating that their son was lost in an airplane accident somewhere in the northwest.
No other news has been received by the parents since the news of his safety was heard on the radio this morning. This news did not reveal his whereabouts or state particulars concerning the accident.
Ensign Samuel KIME graduated from the training school at Pensacola, and received his commission as Ensign in the U. S. Naval Reserve.
